First playing was Cam Hughes. Just him and his guitar playing to an already mostly full venue, Cam captured their attention with a mix of covers and originals. Nice guitar playing but singing a bit off key towards the end, but hey, first on to an almost full venue must be pretty hard. I look forward to seeing him play again so we [Fret-Buzz] will keep an eye on what he’s up to next.

Red Herring next. Now I’m not a massive fan of cover bands, but these guys nailed it. The crowd loved it, the band looked like they were having fun, they played very well together and, well, acoustic bass at a gig like this. Very cool. What a great warm-up to the head-liners of the night.

Dreamer Joe finish the night off with an explosive set. Like I said before, I’m not a huge fan of covers, but their choice of songs to play between originals was spot on. Black Math, Fire, Cocaine! That White Stripes song has no business to be covered but shit me that was good! On to their original songs… fantastic. If you’re a fan of classic rock, garage, blues, anything higher than pop nonsense, then you’ll love Dreamer Joe. Now and again a band comes along that makes me sit up and pay attention – this is the latest. Keep an eye out for Dreamer Joe.

It’s so refreshing to see Coburgs bustling with people on any gig night, but for a 16+ night, it was great to see a young audience really making a night of it. My only experience (other than the festival) of seeing live music under the age of 18 was chancing on dodgy cover bands whilst hiding from bar staff until drunk enough for no one to question my age… so it’s nice to see 16+ nights with a selection of decent bands.

p.s. To the boy I unceremoniously upset in the toilets, I give you this. “If you snooze, you loose.”
