Live Island Presents… Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser @ Blacksheep Bar 21.05.15

This Thursday make your way to The Blacksheep Bar in Ryde for a night of great local music (and cake?) all in aid of the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. Doors open at 7:30pm, heaps of original local music, FREE entry-ish (donations greatly accepted – don’t be a cheapskate) with the added warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing that you are helping to make a difference. Aww.

On Saturday 25 April a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. It severely shook the lives of at least 8m people and left many homeless.  Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu, have been badly damaged and rural areas near the epicentre have been completely cut off by avalanches.

Already over 7000 people have been confirmed dead and the figure is likely to rise significantly in the coming days. Even those whose homes are still standing are sleeping in the streets because they are terrified by regular aftershocks.

If you can’t make it, or want to start early, here’s a link to donate now: DONATE HERE!

Line-up as follows:

After a groundbreaking 2014, Duveaux are back for 2015 with a new EP, and it’s better than ever.

Atmos Music was founded in 2017 by festival blogger Luke Joynes to harness the acoustics of some of the south’s best music venues. Whether that be record stores, churches, historical buildings or some of the best purpose-built venues, Atmos Music has the very best covered.

Luke Joynes founded the Isle of Wight Music Festivals Fansite at the age of just 13, racking up thousands of followers on social media sites. This took him to reviewing and photographing some of the UK’s finest festivals, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Bestival and Victorious Festival, as well as interviewing the likes of Rob da Bank, The Shires, Ward Thomas and many more.

In 2016, Luke put on his first show, as part of the Ventnor Fringe Festival, with London musician Tim Arnold at the beautiful St Catherine’s Church. The event attracted around 100 people, raising around £150 for his charity of choice: WellChild UK. He then went on to promote a sold out show with Noah and the Whale founding member Matt Owens at the Ventnor Exchange- a record store and bar.

Luke has his eyes set on revolutionising the indoor music scene with Atmos Music, providing unique and exciting opportunities for both audiences and artists.

RECREATIONS – Beaches Ain’t Shit Tour in October (News from Sonic PR)

Following a summer of festival performances, Recreations (Sam Duckworth, formerly Get Cape Wear Cape Fly) will embark on a tour of South Coast seaside towns throughout October, in what will be a celebration of these provincial British holiday destinations. The run comes after two very special performances in his hometown of Southend On Sea – one at legendary venue The Chinnerys and the other at the end of Southend Pier as part of the Estuary Festival. At both gigs, Recreations will play Get Cape Wear Cape Fly’s debut gold-selling album ‘The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager’ in its entirety before putting the mouthful of a moniker to bed forever with a Viking funeral.

Full dates are:

01 Southend, Chinnerys

02 Southend, Pier

13 Bournemouth Anvil

14 Worthing, Bar 42

15 Ipswich, South Street Studio

20 Hastings, Observer Building

21 Ramsgate, Music Hall

22 Eastbourne, Printers Playhouse

Coinciding with the announcement of these dates, Recreations has made available a live EP recorded in Hamburg earlier this year. ‘Live At Lux EP’ – out 9th September 2016 – features ‘Pipedown’, ‘Red Spex’ ‘Build To Last’ and ‘Shake It Off 2’ showing how incredible Recreations’ one-man performance is in the live arena. Watch a live performance of the single ‘Pipedown’ which is currently soundtracking the summer by being blasted out across 6Music courtesy of Steve Lamacq and Radio X on the Xposure Playlist – here.

Recreations released the self-produced debut album ‘Baby Boomers 2’ back in April. It’s a collection full of wide-eyed, big-dreaming, conscientious pop songs that are undeniably /him/, but delivered with looser funk, crisper electronics and notably less tubs to thump on. In more ways than one, it sees Duckworth get his groove back.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Recreations’ creative output continues apace with an EP of brand new tracks to be released very soon. More information to follow. /  Twitter: @recreations2k

Duke Garwood Announces February UK Tour (One Beat PR News)

The cat is well and truly out of the bag on Duke Garwood and his soulful, stripped-bare sound, thanks to the release of his fifth album Heavy Love last year, his first for Heavenly Recordings. Thrusting Garwood from south London’s unlikely bluesman into the spotlight he so thoroughly deserves, the word looks set to continue to spread with a new tour and album number six readied for release in February 2017.

Old soul-meets-saint, Duke’s life story is one of the character-building twists and turns known only by the greatest artists and vagabonds. As the leading character in a tale where Mexican gangs forced tequila down his throat, or in rooms where some of the world’s biggest rock stars would gather, Duke’s cross-continental travels extend from Thailand’s bar scene, the mean streets of Paris, Hackney’s squatlands, nearly dying upon returning from Cuba due to “some serious jungle disease”, Moroccan hash bars, a music-filled bolthole on Brixton Hill, to Josh Homme’s Pink Duck studio in Los Angeles.

An artist who has walked his own distinct path for over 20 years and counts Josh T. Pearson, Tinariwen, Mark Lanegan, Kurt Vile, and Savages’ Jehnny Beth as fans and collaborators, Garwood will bring his unique “mad blues” groove to the following venues early next year.

Live dates:
9th February – Bodega, Nottingham
10th February – King Tut’s, Glasgow
11th February – Headrow House, Leeds
12th February – The Deaf Institute, Manchester
14th February – Komedia, Brighton
15th February – The Louisiana, Bristol
16th February – Oslo, London

“Career-defining album from grizzled country-blues Brit vagabond” 4/5 MOJO

“Slow-burn songwriter’s moody breakthrough” 8/10 Uncut Magazine

“there is a new and penetrating heat haze to these reverberating songs” The Observer

“Imagine the healing music that could be made if you mixed Mark Lanegan’s growling blues with JJ Cale’s hypnotic guitar shuffle. That’s what Garwood does” The Sunday Times

“The smell of late nights creeping into dawn and a pace besides which a leisurely stroll looks like a sprint” Q
